Manus VR gloves track movements of entire arm when used with HTC Vive
Many companies are competing to ensure that their VR headset beats all else in the market. However, among these, the HTC Vive has come out ahead — thanks to its controllers and now a pair of VR gloves are scheduled to release alongside it with an SDK in June.
The Manus VR gloves are due to be available in an SDK, which is releasing June of this year, but already they are getting a lot of attention on the Internet. Engadget reports that these gloves were demonstrated in the Game Developers Conference that was held earlier this year, and they were impressive. The report states that new features have been added to the Manus VR gloves and they can now be used with the motion controllers that come with the HTC Vive.
Importantly, Manus VR showcased a video recently that demonstrated how the HTC Vive's motion controllers can be strapped on when the user is wearing gloves. Once this is done, the entire action that the user performs with their arms can be tracked. This means even if the user bends their elbows, the gloves and the controllers will be able to track the movement and convert them into actions in a virtual game.
This ultimately means that when users are wearing the Manus VR gloves and the motion controllers, they will be able to employ a number of new moves like blocking with their arms, and this can be integrated into the development of games. Also, since the arms are tracked entirely, accessories such as a Pip-Boy or an Apple Watch can be recreated on the hands of the users in the game environment and they can then become a user interface. Using these new features and the Manus VR gloves, users will not have to deal with the floating hands issue that is often experienced when using VR games.
Currently, Manus VR gloves can only be used with the HTC Vive, but the company producing it wants to ultimately allow users to employ it with headsets like the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR.
