Nexus 2016 release date: devices rumored to be manufactured by HTC and Huawei
With the second half of the year approaching, all attention has been focused on the arrival of the iPhone 7 lineup. However, among Android users, the upcoming Nexus devices are being watched closely. Even though Google has not formally announced any plans for these devices and very little information about them is known, there are indications that both HTC and Huawei will be involved in their production.
The latest set of rumors about the upcoming Nexus 2016 smartphones arrived via KnowYourMobile which pointed toward HTC and Huawei playing a part in their production. This is markedly different from last year when LG manufactured the Nexus 5X and Huawei was roped in for making the bigger and costlier Nexus 6P. Additionally, earlier this year, rumors had pointed towards HTC being responsible for producing both devices, so Huawei being thrown into the mix right now is a surprise for many.
This year, if the current rumors are to be believed, Google is planning to take a chance on HTC to produce at least one of the Nexus devices. Additionally, there are indications that HTC is already testing such a smartphone and it is running Android N. As for the major features that are expected, one of these is likely to be the inclusion of pressure-sensing technology similar to 3D Touch, which is currently on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Since Android N already has support for pressure-sensing, it is likely that Google is planning to use the technology on its upcoming Nexus lineup.
Google has also made it clear that it is going to be bringing out Daydream-ready phones soon, therefore it is likely that the Nexus smartphones from HTC and Huawei will be such devices. Also, with Daydream built on Android N, it will be easy for the upcoming smartphones to offer it.
As for the specifications of the two upcoming Nexus phones, one is likely to have a 5-inch screen while another will be bigger at 5.5 inches. Finally, the release of these two devices is likely to happen after they are launched alongside Android N in October or November of this year.
