Oklahoma City Thunder trade rumors 2016: Suns' P.J. Tucker a perfect fit?
Star players and prominent names are being linked to the Oklahoma City Thunder as they aim to have a solid supporting cast for Russell Westbrook. But perhaps what they truly need is a hustle guy and an efficient role player like P.J. Tucker of the Phoenix Suns.
Tucker heading to Oklahoma City was suggested by a report from Sportsblog. In the deal, the Thunder are sending the rarely used Kyle Singler to Phoenix.
Looking at the Thunder's current roster, they have a good unit. Westbrook is undoubtedly the star and leads the offense, while also being a beast on the boards as he now averages a triple-double per game. Helping him carry the scoring load are the likes of Victor Oladipo and Enes Kanter.
On the defensive end, Steven Adams is taking charge and the recently added Jerami Grant is making waves as he leads the team in blocks.
Oklahoma City has a good group that is capable of putting up a great run this season. But there are still voids in its game that must be filled and Tucker may be the answer in some of those.
According to Sportsblog, Tucker "will bring more toughness and competitiveness" in Oklahoma City and that might be right.
Tucker's stat sheet is far from loaded as he only averages 5.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, with 1.1 steals per outing. But what the 31-year-old brings to the table are the little things, the intangibles that have bigger effects in the long run. Together with this, he never backs down, which fits what appears to be the Thunder's mantra in the present campaign.
Standing at 6-foot-6, Tucker is an undersized forward although he is versatile enough to see action at the no. 4 and 5 positions.
This is an interesting proposal and something the Thunder should consider now that they are aiming to remain competitive after the Kevin Durant era.
