Philips Sapphire S616 and Sapphire Life V787 news: Smartphones get SoftBlue technology to reduce eye strain
With prolonged use of smartphones nowadays, it is much more common to experience eyestrain and fatigue. It seems that the cause of eye fatigue is due to the blue light emitted by most smartphone devices. Philips is hoping to combat it with the release of two new smartphones.
Philips recently unveiled the Sapphire S616 and the Sapphire Life V787. The two smartphones feature SoftBlue technology that reduces the amount of blue light emitted by 86 percent.
Philips Sapphire S616
The Philips Sapphire S616 features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a 1080 x 1920 screen resolution and 401ppi pixel density. It is powered by an octa-core 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6753 processor, the Mali T720 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. It has 16 GB of internal storage but can be expanded up to 128 GB via a microSD slot.
The smartphone is equipped with a 13 MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture. In front, there is a 5 MP camera with a wide-angle lens for selfies and video calls.
The Sapphire S616 is backed up by a removable 3,000 mAh battery. It features dual-SIM with dual standby and 4G LTE connectivity. It also comes preloaded with Android 5.1 with Philips' UI on top.
The Philips Sapphire S616 is expected to launch this November for about $222.
Philips Sapphire Life V787
Philips also unveiled the Sapphire Life V787. The Sapphire Life V787 shares most of its features with the Sapphire S616 except for a few differences.
The Sapphire Life V787 features a smaller 5-inch display with a 1080 x 1920 screenresolution and 441ppi pixel density.
The smartphone's 13 MP rear camera comes with phase detection auto focus that can focus in just 0.2 seconds.
The Sapphire Life V787 also comes with a very capable 5,000 mAh battery. The battery uses Philip's Xenium technology that promises up to 47 hours of talk time.
The Philips Sapphire Life V787 is expected to launch at the end of November. Pricing information has yet to be unveiled.
