Reward offered in threatening letters case at Presbyterian College
Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina is telling staff and faculty about a $15,000 reward offered to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who sent threatening letters to schools in the area.
Joy Smith, Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students, said in an update last week that state authorities of the South Carolina Enforcement Division have said a "great number of officers and agencies" are investigating the case.
U.S. Postal Service officials said on March 19 that the letters were apparently written by the same person. The letters were delivered to Laurens county school district offices, Presbyterian College and Clinton Public Safety.
"The letters are being thoroughly analyzed and tested and are providing leads in the case," she said.
Few details are being released due to the ongoing investigation, except to say the letters had to do with security at the schools.
She also urged faculty and staff to continue to take precautions such as locking cars, rooms and offices and called for reporting to campus police anyone who displayed suspicious behavior and the discovery of any unattended items or packages.
The school has set up a tip line with callers being allowed to remain anonymous if they wish.
She noted state authorities of the South Carolina Enforcement Division have said a "great number of officers and agencies" are investigating the case.
