Samsung Galaxy Alpha: Full specs unveiled ahead of September release date
Samsung has finally confirmed the arrival of a metal clad Galaxy Alpha in September and released the full specifications of the new device.
"The Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market," said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics.
"With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality combining a stunning metal frame and slim, light weight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device," Shin continued.
Galaxy Alpha will bring the same powerful Samsung experience in a smaller, slimmer and lightweight design.
Alpha stands less than 7 mm thick making it one of the slimmest Galaxy devices to come out of Samsung's turf.
According the official announcement, it will sport a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 resolution, Octa Core, Ultra Power Saving Mode, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB internal memory, 12 MP rear-facing camera and 2.1 MP front-facing camera and will be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
The smartphone will feature fingerprint scanning technology, S Health and connectivity to Samsung Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2 smartwatches.
Galaxy Alpha will be available in five colors: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver and Scuba Blue.
The new smartphone is poised to go up against Apple's iPhone 6 when it comes out later this year.
The Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 will be held in Berlin, Germany on September 3, 2014 at around 15:00 CEST, ahead of the annual IFA Consumer Electronics fair.
Live streaming is available via YouTube and the event will simultaneously happen in three key cities: Berlin, New York and Beijing.
Galaxy Alpha's form, factor and functionality are all featured in this "Just Alpha" official video.
