When it comes to their line of tablets, Samsung has a number of good options for budget conscious consumers, one of which is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0. Here is how it compares to the bigger and costlier Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4.
Design
In terms of design, both devices appear to be very similar. Though they are both made of plastic, the Tab S 8.4 is superior as its body's material is of better quality. Its back also has dimples while the Tab A 8.0's back panel is smooth. As for their weight, the Tab A 8.0 is heavier as it weighs 313 grams compared to its competitor, which only weighs 294 grams. A big difference between the devices is a fingerprint swipe-based scanner present on the Tab S 8.4.
Display
The Tab A 8.0 has a slightly smaller TFT capacitive touchscreen. It measures 8.0 inches with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels and a density of 160 pixels per inch. The Tab S 8.4 comes with a bigger and sharper super AMOLED screen measuring 8.4 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels and a density of 359 pixels per inch.
Specs
The Tab A 8.0 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU clocked at 1.2GHz while the hardware on the Tab S 8.4 is much superior as it comes with an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset along with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at1.9 GHz and four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU.
Memory
There are two versions of the Tab A 8.0. Its 16 GB model with Wi-Fi comes with 1.5 GB of RAM while its 32 GB LTE model comes with 2 GB of RAM. The Tab S 8.4 comes with 3 GB. As for memory slots, both devices allow for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 sells at around $200 while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 costs around $400.
