Finally, after a false start that comprised of the Sony Xperia E5 being shown on official websites and then being removed, the smartphone has been officially launched. As soon as it was spotted recently, many were describing it as a bland offering with nothing of note except a 5-inch screen.

Pointing to the launch of the Xperia E5, The Verge states that it popped up with an uninspired design which made it look similar to other handsets brought out by Sony so far this year. This addition of yet another device by Sony in the "E" category therefore does not bring anything new and analysts indicate that it will do nothing to change the downward spiral that the company's smartphone lineup is in. As for the device itself, it arrived sans any fanfare and was seen with many of the features that were mentioned in rumors over the past few weeks.

Among the outstanding features is its 5-inch display which has a resolution of 720p. As for the storage onboard the device, it is at 16 GB but users will also be able to add on more external storage with the aid of the microSD slot on board. Hardware on the device is in the form of a Mediatek MTK6735 chipset that is coupled with a CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores that is clocked at 1.3GHz. In terms of RAM, there is 1.5 GB onboard which means that the device is going to have the bare minimum to handle apps and other tasks.

Coming to its weight, the device is around 147 grams, and as for the battery, it is a 2,700 mAh version which would provide up to two days of charge under standard conditions. The camera on the device is also rather ordinary with a 13-megapixel version at the rear and a 5-megapixel version in front for selfies.

As of now, there is no information as to when it will launch in the United States, but in countries in Europe, it will retail with a 199 euro price tag.
