Microsoft Surface Phone release date: Hints point to device's existence and imminent release
Although there is no official word from Microsoft yet, gadget pundits are bent on believing that the company is, indeed, releasing a Surface Phone soon, which is hinted by the discount on its Lumia phones and a tweet by its director for engineering.
According to reports, Microsoft is now selling its Lumia phones at discounted prices as the company is pulling out the smartphone from the market by year-end. Reportedly, the brand of smartphone that Microsoft acquired from Nokia is causing the company losses, hence, the decision to pull out the product from the store shelves.
With this, it is now suspected that the company will soon release its Surface Phone, which, although its existence has never been confirmed by Microsoft itself, is believed to be already in the pipeline and is just waiting to be unveiled.
While it's true that Microsoft has yet to confirm the existence of the Surface Phone, it has neither denied the speculations. In fact, the company's director for engineering, Janet Baker, recently came up with a tweet that bolstered the belief of the many that a Surface Phone is making its debut in the coming days.
On her tweet, Baker said that the Surface Phone is "not not confirmed," which is double negative. Whether it's grammar or math, double negative yields an affirmative meaning or result, hence, talks about Microsoft releasing a Surface Phone soon have become even louder. However, there are also those who believe that the said double negative on the tweet may be nothing more than a typographical error.
The said tweet has already been deleted.
Meanwhile, it is also speculated that Microsoft is coming up with an event next month wherein it will unveil its various Surface products, including a Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5. Whether the Surface Phone will, indeed, be unveiled in the alleged event, no one outside Microsoft really knows at this point in time.
