Ford has unveiled the 2017 Escape SUV which has received a new look and is equipped with the latest innovative features and technology.

"The compact SUV segment is the largest and most competitive in the United States, and the new Escape delivers even more of what our consumers want – more technology they can really use to make their daily drive safer and easier," said Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford The Americas.

The recently unveiled SUV comes with a more rugged and edgier look. The redesigned front fascia features a raised trapezoidal grille with horizontal bars. The LED tail lamps were also revised and wheels were redesigned.

The standard Escape S trim will be powered by a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that produces 168 horsepower.

Ford also adds two new efficient EcoBoost engines to the lineup. The EcoBoost engines will be offered as a front-wheel drive or an four-wheel drive.

The Escape SE and Titanium trim levels will be equipped with the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 180 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter twin-scroll EcoBoost engine that delivers 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque is optional.

The new EcoBoost engines come standard with Auto Start-Stop technology. The engine's technology detects when the SUV is idle and the engine is turned off. This helps save fuel, especially in times of heavy traffic. Fuel economy is improved by four to six percent.

The 2017 Ford Escape comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SE and Titanium trims get paddle-shift technology.

The all-new Escape is also the first Ford vehicle to be equipped with SYNC Connect. Customers can unlock doors, lock doors and start the engine by using their smartphones. They can also access information like tire pressure, battery and fuel levels.

To make the daily commute safer, the Escape also comes with driver assist technologies including enhanced active park assist, lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning with brake support.

The 2017 Ford Escape will go on sale by Summer 2016. It will compete with the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
