Android 5.1 Lollipop update arrives for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices
About four months after Android 5.0 Lollipop was introduced, the Android 5.1 Lollipop has been released for most Google Nexus devices this week, including the Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10, which are presently in various stages of receiving the update.
Each time Google has released a new version of Android, the devices manufactured by the company have always been the first to receive the update. With the official announcement and release of Android 5.1 Lollipop, users of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 are receiving OTA updates for their respective devices.
U.S. carriers are now carrying out a staggered OTA rollout for Nexus devices. T-Mobile has announced that it is currently pushing the update to the Nexus 4, 5 and 7, while Sprint has stated that its rollout for the Nexus 6 is underway. Verizon, which has begun carrying the Nexus 6 from March 12 onwards, has confirmed that the device will be running Android lollipop 5.1 straight out of the box.
Android Lollipop 5.1 is said to bring a host of features, such as support for multiple SIM cards on devices with multiple slots and HD calling between compatible devices running Android 5.1 Lollipop. The software update also enhances device protection by locking the phone until the owner signs in with his or her Google account even in the case of a factory reset.
Similar to other software updates, Android 5.1 is also being pushed to users in batches, which means that only a small group of Nexus devices will be updated at one time. Upon becoming eligible for receiving the new firmware update, a system update message will automatically show up in the notifications bar of Nexus devices. Users who do not wish to wait for the OTA Android 5.1 Lollipop update to hit their Nexus devices can upgrade using the links to the Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 10 software given here.
