Samsung devices have not exactly been among the earliest to receive new Android updates, but things could be changing this year with the upcoming release of the Android N OS.

The Android N, which by the way is now officially known as Android Nougat, is expected to be released sometime around the third quarter of this year, and Google's new Nexus devices are the first ones that will likely feature the new OS.

Now, a recent report indicates that things may be changing for some Samsung smartphones and phablets as they could be among the first devices to feature the Android N OS, possibly even just a couple of months after the full version of the update is released.

According to a recent report from Sam Mobile, some of Samsung's premium devices could receive the Android N update as early as the fourth quarter of this year. The report reveals that the devices that may get the update this year include the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge , S7, S7 Edge and also the Galaxy Note 5.

The website does indicate that it's possible that only users in certain regions could get the update before the end of the year, with the rest receiving the Android N update in 2017.

Samsung devices getting the latest version of the Android OS the same year it was released would be quite a different experience for many users.

As Android Authority noted, many Samsung owners had to wait until March of this year before they got the Marshmallow update. With any luck, things will be different this time around, and many Samsung owners will be able to ring in the New Year with the Android Nougat OS already running on their chosen smartphones and phablets.

More news about the Android N OS and when it could be released for different devices should be made available in the near future.
