Android N release date for HTC devices by December 2016

(Android N)

Google announced Android N earlier than expected, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. On the contrary, given the positive feedback that it received during testing, it seems that Google has geared up quite a bit and turned things up a notch in terms of efficiency. But when will Android N arrive?

The answer mostly depends on the type of phone a user has. It is widely believed that HTC devices will get the Android N early. When Android Marshmallow was rolled out, HTC was quick to adopt the operating system and got it to their devices by December, which came only two months after Google released it. If HTC will follow the same pattern this time around, that means users will get Android N on their phones by December this year, just in time for the new year.

Another example is Samsung's case. The brand may have a solid reputation and genuine street credibility under its repertoire, but that doesn't automatically mean that it will be the first to have the new system. Samsung took five months before they updated their phones with Android Marshmallow. And if history repeats itself, that means Samsung users will get Android N sometime next year, potentially in the first quarter.

Google has not decided on an official name for Android N as of yet. The company is also open to suggestions, but the general assumption is that it will go with Nougat. The new operating system is currently undergoing beta testing and is expected to drop in the fourth quarter of this year.

Of course, being under the same company means that Nexus will get the update first. According to Know Your Mobile, Nexus is bound to get the final iteration of the system by August or September. Currently, Nexus is in its fourth preview stage, which involves final APIs and SDK.
