While Apple has not announced when the second edition of its Apple Watch will be launched, things are not looking rosy for the device. This much became clear when rumors emerged recently that developers were quickly losing interest in the first edition of the watch which released last year.

Even as rumors about the Apple Watch 2 were emerging on the Internet and pointing towards it arriving during the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), there were indications that developers were getting tired of the Apple Watch. This particular bit of information was reported by Business Insider, who quoted an app developer named Tim Anglade. Explaining this drop-off, Anglade, who works for the company Realm as a Vice President, pointed out that developers were just not interested in creating apps for the Apple Watch as they were previously.

Realm is considered to be in a good position to track the development of apps for the Apple Watch as it is used by 100,000 developers. Based on its statistics, interest in the device has declined markedly this year compared to the last one when the device was released. Anglade even outlined that there is only one app being designed for the Apple watch in every 1,000 new ones that are being made for iOS.

When new products release, these is usually a mad scramble to create apps for it. However, since the Apple Watch released in April last year, it appears that it has been relegated to the role of a "companion device." Also, there is not much money to be made by creating apps for the Apple Watch.

Meanwhile, with rumors increasingly pointing towards Apple bringing out an Apple Watch 2 soon and possibly during the WWDC, interest in the device could pick up. Apple's WWDC is scheduled for June 13–17.

Apple however, has not released any teasers or hinted that the Apple Watch 2 will be arriving during the upcoming WWDC. This has caused many analysts to speculate that the company could push its release to September so that it will arrive along with the iPhone 7 lineup.
