With virtual reality (VR) headsets dominating the news in the gaming industry, it is not surprising that more companies are looking to enter the market. One among these is expected to be a new VR headset from Asus which was spotted at Computex 2016.

Currently, Computex 2016 is in full swing in Taipei, Taiwan and Asus has been showcasing its products. However, even as the company was launching its ZenFone 3 alongside the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and the ZenFone 3 Ultra a few days ago, it devoted a section of its event to a VR headset. More importantly, the company did not indicate what the name of the headset would be. Engadget spotted the headset in the event at Computex and quickly went on to dub it as a "me-too" version, indicating that the company wanted to emulate the Gear VR and the LG 360 VR.

As for the launch date of the Asus VR headset, there are no details available as of the moment but rumors from Computex indicate that it is still being worked on and will be ready sometime next year. This means that the headset will be arriving quite late in the market compared to the Gear VR, which has been available for purchase since last year.

Coming to the specifications of the upcoming VR headset from Asus, there were no official statements about it. However, it is likely that an Asus-manufactured smartphone will have to be positioned within the headset, much like how the Gear VR operates. This is likely to result in less lag, which is sometimes evident in the LG 360 VR which has to remain connected to a smartphone that is attached separately.

Since Asus did not demonstrate how the VR headset would work in Computex, analysts and gamers have been relying on the photos of the device to describe its workings. However, according to Engadget, the headset is going to look pretty "fancy" as it was seen having leather straps that would be positioned on the user's head.
