There has been a lot of hype surrounding the ASUS ZenFone 2 ever since it was launched this month with a huge 4 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, Chinese smartphone-maker OnePlus is getting ready to launch a successor to its highly successful smartphone, OnePlus One, which had received the title of 'Flagship Killer.'

The next-gen phone dubbed OnePlus Two is expected to feature even better hardware specifications and features than its predecessor to provide users with improved mobile performance and flexibility. OnePlus has not yet released the technical specifications of the OnePlus Two, but there have been rumors about the upcoming smartphone's features. We compare the ASUS ZenFone 2 and OnePlus Two's rumored specs to see how they stack up against each other in terms of design, display, specs and performance.

Design: The ZenFone 2 features an all-plastic casing with a brushed metal exterior and a curvy back, offering a decent build quality. Instead of the polycarbonate frame of its predecessor, the OnePlus Two is rumored to sport a metallic frame made of premium materials, which could result in the next-gen phone being sold at a higher price.

Display: Asus Zenfone 2 sports a 5.5in IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels offering a pixel density of approximately 403 PPI, along with a Gorilla Glass 3 screen protector. Rumors suggest that the OnePlus Two could come with a 5.5-inch display having full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels).

Hardware: The Zenfone 2 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor based on both 2GB as well as 4GB RAM configurations. On the other hand, OnePlus Two is expected to run on a Snapdragon 810 processor paired with Adreno 430 graphics unit and 3GB of RAM.

Memory: The Asus Zenfone 2 comes in three internal storage editions - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, with the 16GB and 32GB variants being expandable up to 64GB via an external MicroSD card slot. There is currently no information available about the storage that will be offered by OnePlus Two and whether it will have external MicroSD card support. However, since the OnePlus One offers 16GB and 64GB internal storage variants without provision for expansion via external MicroSD card, its successor is also likely to offer 16GB and 64GB storage options, but might not arrive with a microSD card slot.

Camera: Asus' Zenfone 2 packs a 13MP rear camera with a dual-LED flash and support for geo-tagging of images, as well as shooting 1080p videos at 30 frames per second (FPS), along with a 5MP front camera. Similar to OnePlus One, its successor is also expected to feature a 13-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and support for geo-tagging of images, and shooting 1080p videos at 60 FPS, 2160p videos at 30 FPS, 2160p (DCI) videos at 24 FPS and 720p videos at 120 FPS. The OnePlus Two will also sport a 5MP front camera.

Software: The Asus Zenfone 2 runs the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) operating system with ZenUI slapped on top, while the OnePlus Two is likely to run on its own custom Android ROM, called Oxygen OS, which is designed to give almost a stock Android like experience, similar to that on the Nexus 6.

Battery: The Zenfone 2 houses a fixed 3,000 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery, as compared to a fixed 3100 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery in the OnePlus Two.

Price: Asus has surprised U.S. consumers with a price of just $299 unlocked for the ZenFone 2's 2.3GHz version with 64GB of storage, and an even less-expensive $199 version for version with 1.8GHz processor, 16GB of storage, and 2GB RAM. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has hinted that the OnePlus Two will be available at a price of about $400.

Both the ASUS ZenFone 2 and OnePlus Two are clearly big on features and low on price, and these two flagship killers are expected to impact sales of Samsung, Apple and HTC in a big way.
