Barack Obama runs wild with Bear Grylls in Alaska; eats salmon left behind by a bear

U.S. President Barack Obama will go down in history as the first ever president to have run wild with survival expert, Bear Grylls.

President Obama recently embarked on a three-day trip to Alaska to observe and draw attention to the impact that climate change has had on the renowned Alaskan wilderness.  He was joined by the British adventurer who gave him a crash course on surviving the Great Outdoors. The groundbreaking trip will be shown in a special episode of "Running Wild with Bear Grylls" later this month.

Obama's adventure started out with the ubiquitous selfie that he later posted on the White House's Instagram account with the caption, "Glad this was the only Bear I met in the park."

The president appeared to be excited about his Alaskan adventure and described it as "one of the best days of my presidency," citing the fact that he was not in the office and wearing a suit as the main reasons.

Obama also posted several photos that showed the changes wrought by global warming. He pointed out how much the markers in Exit Glacier have receded in one photo and exclaimed about the beauty of Resurrection Bay in another.

The American president revealed that his daughters and the children they will have in the future are why he wants to minimize climate change.

"I want to make sure this is there for them, not just for us," he explained.

But what fans of "Running Wild" were waiting for was what Grylls would be able to scavenge for their meal. Obama himself admitted that while he was prepared for his hike with the survival junkie, he was wary about what he would be eating for lunch.

"I've seen some of the stuff Bear eats, and it's gotta be something that doesn't still have its legs and eyes on it," Obama said.

Luckily for the president, the 41-year-old Grylls was able to find something that could be stomached – a piece of salmon. But the fish was a leftover from a real bear's meal. When asked by Obama why the bear didn't finish what looked to be a tasty fish, the UK's Chief Scout explained that most of the time bears just eat the fattiest part of the fish (eggs, brain) and leave the rest behind.

The two made short work of the fish after Grylls roasted it and Obama described it as "tasty." However, he admitted it would have been better if they had some crackers.

The experience seemed to have been a satisfying one for the president, even though he thinks the "Born Survivor" was a "mediocre" cook. He's just grateful that he ate something relatively normal.

"Now, the fact that he told me this was a leftover fish from a bear, I don't know if that was necessary," Obama quipped. "He could have just left that out."
