The official name of the Android-powered BlackBerry phone, Venice, has been officially revealed by the manufacturer's CEO, John Chen, during the company's quarterly meeting, and it will now be referred to as the BlackBerry Priv.

According to Pocket-Lint, the company finally announced the existence of the BlackBerry Venice and added that the official brand name of the device is Priv. "I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy," CEO John Chen said. "Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform."

Assumingly, the name, Priv, is actually a shortened word for Privacy, which is what the company was boasting about in their official post on their website. BlackBerry wrote in their blog, "With PRIV, our commitment is to continue to provide confidence that your privacy and productivity come first. In today's hectic world where cyber threats are real for everyone, BlackBerry is making sure that our products invoke this mantra that your privacy is your privilege."

Unfortunately, despite the wonderful news regarding the official name of the handset, BlackBerry is still keeping the lid tight when it comes to the phone's specifications, and is keeping mum on the official launch date of the phone.

However, there have been many circulating rumors lately which point out the possible specs of the BlackBerry Priv. In Ecumenical News' report a couple of weeks ago, rumors suggested that the handset is going to come with a 5.4-inch QHD screen and will be powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU.

Needless to say, since there is still no word coming from BlackBerry regarding their newest device's specifications, fans are advised to take the rumors with a pinch of salt for now and simply wait for the official announcement from the manufacturer.
