Boston Celtics trade rumors 2016: Los Angeles Lakers' Nick Young to be acquired?

The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to do everything they can to unload Nick Young this off-season. If they choose to trade him, their greatest rivals the Boston Celtics might be the ones landing the veteran guard.

Last season, Young lost value to the Lakers with Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams sharing majority of the minutes at the shooting guard position. This may be one of the reasons why the 31-year-old player is being disposed.

In a report by SB Nation's CelticsBlog, it was stated that perhaps the Celtics may want to look at a deal for Young. The potential trade will see them ship R.J. Hunter and James Young to the Lakers for "Swaggy P."

This move is going to help Boston save money ($800,000) in their salary cap which can be used in the future.

Setting aside the financial aspect of the potential exchange, Young could be an "impact player" for the C's, something they are looking for this off-season.

Young may have performed poorly last season but before losing significance to Los Angeles, he was a great player for the franchise.

When Young joined the Lakers in 2013, they were starting to struggle but he provided good numbers especially on offense.

If Young moves to Boston, he might get the chance to again be a significant contributor for an organization. He could join the likes of All-Star Isaiah Thomas and veteran Al Horford as main scoring options for the Celtics, doing it as a member of the bench.

However, for now, this switch is unlikely. If the Celtics are going to engage in a trade deal, they might as well go for stars who would help them contend in the Eastern Conference. They are not seeking for pieces who will serve as members of the supporting cast.
