If 2016's "Call of Duty" offering continues along the current direction of the franchise by including even more futuristic features, then it looks like more than a few fans will be unhappy about it.

Rumors about the next installment of the franchise continuing the trend of featuring even more sci-fi elements surfaced last month after the game became a topic on one NeoGAF thread.

Within that thread, noted tipster "shinobi602" indicated that the upcoming game would be set in the far future and that it may even include firefights that take place in space.

Some of the fans within that thread expressed their disappointment at the rumored game possibly heading in that direction, and apparently, they are not the only ones unhappy about the whole thing.

Recently, "Call of Duty" fans have now taken to Twitter to express their disappointment by using the hashtags #MakeCODGreatAgain and #BringBackCOD, Gaming Bolt reported.

By perusing the hashtags on Twitter, people can see that more than a few fans have joined the campaign.

Many of the fans using the hashtags have indicated that they would like to see "Call of Duty" return to its roots instead of continuing down the sci-fi road.

Some fans have also used the hashtags to voice their complaints over other current features of the series such as supply drops and the black market.

It's unclear if the Twitter campaigns are having their desired effects as the folks involved with "Call of Duty" 2016 have yet to reveal more details about the upcoming game.

According to Videogamer, there's a chance that more details about the upcoming game will be revealed soon, especially with Activision set to have an event involving investors on May 5.

If this year's "Call of Duty" game has indeed been changed by the Twitter campaigns, then fans will find out as soon as official details about it are finally shared, and with E3 fast approaching as well, they may get to see exactly what the next installment of the franchise will be bringing to the table.
