Chicago Bulls trade rumors 2016: Jimmy Butler sacrificed to add Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins?

Despite adding Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo this off-season, others believe the Chicago Bulls are still not title contenders. That is why they are still in the rumor mill and a new potential trade sees them parting ways with All-Star Jimmy Butler to land another All-Star in DeMarcus Cousins.

In the suggested swap, Butler together with Robin Lopez and Doug McDermott are shipped to Sactown in exchange for Cousins and Rudy Gay.

As surprising as it may be, Butler - who is considered the next big star for Chicago - was included in a number of rumors earlier this off-season. This is because on the roster, he has the best value. However, after all the speculations, the 26-year-old remains a Bull and is now part of a backcourt Big Three which also features Wade and Rondo.

But a deal that comes with the opportunity of having Cousins might be enough for the Bulls to give up Butler.

What the Bulls are getting in this possible switch is arguably the best center in the National Basketball Association (NBA) today. Cousins is a piece they can build around as they move forward. Finding a replacement for Butler will also not be a main issue since they already have Wade, who is an All-Star as well.

Aside from Cousins, the Bulls will have Gay who remains to be efficient on both ends of the floor. Last season, the 30-year-old was the second-leading scorer for Sacramento just behind Cousins. His on-court contributions together with veteran presence will be big for Chicago, which aims to have a "championship team."

To be true contenders in the NBA, sacrifices must be made and perhaps this is what the Bulls must do for them to return to the championship pedestal. The last time they made it to the Finals was still during the Michael Jordan era.
