Chinese OEM Elephone's next device to run both Android 5.0 and Windows 10

Chinese OEM Elephone has released a couple of decent devices so far, but now seems to be onto something really big that could make consumers sit up and take notice of the company. Elephone is rumored to be working on a mysterious device that is said to be able to run both Android 5.0 Lollipop and Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 platform.

Elephone has been present in the Chinese smartphone market for the last eight years and claims to have sold 10 million devices across Europe, North America, South American and the Middle East. The company takes great pride in its research and development, and currently employs over 1,000 people. Elephone's current flagship, the P7000, sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 16-megapixel main camera, and a fingerprint scanner inside a metal frame, and is powered by octa-core MediaTek processor paired with 3GB of RAM.

At the annual Hong Kong trade fair held recently, Elephone announced that it was working on a new flagship device featuring a QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display, 4GB of RAM and a 20.7-megapixel camera with Sony's IMX230 sensor. The smartphone reportedly features a metal frame with extremely thin side bezels, a fingerprint scanner and is powered by Intel's SoC, marking a change from MediaTek's chips featured in Elephone's earlier devices. The most striking feature about the smartphone is its reported capability to run both Android 5.0 Lollipop and Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 platform.

At its booth put up at the Hong Kong trade fair, Elephone showed off its current Android phones as well as upcoming devices, with details of the purported dual-boot smartphone being revealed on a billboard. It is still unclear whether Elephone's upcoming smartphone will be a dual-boot or two separate versions, and it is quite possible that the company plans to roll out two versions of the next-gen premium device, one with Windows 10 and one with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
