The 2016 National Football League (NFL) season has just begun and the Cleveland Browns are already experiencing bad luck. Now, they will likely bank on Josh McCown who is expected to start at quarterback after Robert Griffin III was injured in their season opener.

Aside from Griffin heading to the injured reserve (IR) list and possibly missing weeks of action, the Browns also lost 29-10 to the Philadelphia Eagles to begin their campaign.

This is a tough break for the Browns, who have missed the playoffs for 13 consecutive years. However, McCown may be the silver lining they need as of the moment.

In the 2015 season, McCown was the true starter for Cleveland but he dealt with a number of health setbacks which limited him to only eight games. In those appearances, the 37-year-old recorded 186 completions for 2,109 yards and 12 touchdowns, also throwing four interceptions.

During this year's off-season, the Browns acquired Griffin and his arrival was seen by some as the end of McCown's stint with the organization.

Griffin was a favorite by many to seal the starting job while McCown became a regular in the trade rumor mill. The latter was linked to teams needing a passer and one of those were the Dallas Cowboys.

But the Browns decided to keep McCown despite tempting offers and it appears they made the right decision.

McCown is currently the best option for the Browns at quarterback, unless they can bring in someone better than him, which is unlikely.

The Browns have rookie passers on the roster and practice squad but McCown has experience which is crucial, also serving as an edge over the newbies.

For now, Cleveland hopes McCown can stay healthy until Griffin returns. The next for the Browns is a home stand versus American Football Conference (AFC) North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.
