'Diablo 4' rumors: Is Blizzard already working on the next installment?

(Battle Net)

Is Blizzard already working on "Diablo 4?"

That's the latest rumor surrounding the demon-slaying franchise and it stems in part from the way that Blizzard has approached the currently available "Diablo 3."

According to a post on Blizz Pro, recent moves made and not made by Blizzard may already be hinting at what fans can expect from "Diablo 3."

The post points out that with so many key members of the "Diablo" team being pulled away in order to contribute to other titles, that may be a sign that work on the currently available RPG may already be slowing down.

Beyond that, the absence of concrete information regarding the game's second expansion may also be a sign that Blizzard has tabled that project indefinitely in lieu of developing something else, and that something else could turn out to be "Diablo 4."

For what it's worth, Blizzard is planning to release a new patch for "Diablo 3" soon.

As can be seen on Battle Net, the upcoming patch is expected to add a variety of items to the game in the form of new pets and other cosmetic accessories.

No release date for the new patch has been announced thus far.

Still, even if a new patch is coming to "Diablo 3," that may not necessarily be an indicator that work on a sequel has not started.

As Blizz Pro also noted, the smaller patches that add some items to the game may be more in line with what players can expect to see while work is done on other titles.

At this point, it's very difficult to pin down exactly what Blizzard has planned for the "Diablo" franchise in the very near future.

Small patches likely won't keep players happy for a long time, however, and something big may have to be announced soon in order to make up for the lack of significant updates.

More news about "Diablo 3" and perhaps even "Diablo 4" may be made available in the future.
