DROID Turbo 2 vs DROID Turbo: how do these two Motorola devices size up to each other?

Last year, Motorola released the DROID Turbo exclusively through Verizon and following the good reception that the device got, the company refreshed the lineup this year with the DROID Turbo 2. Here is how these two devices compare in a face off. 

Design

In terms of design, both these devices are quite similar. The DROID Turbo has a metal frame and its back panel comes with either ballistic nylon or metallic plastic in red and black. As for the corners of the device, they are square and therefore the phone has an appearance of a solid brick. Coming to the DROID Turbo 2, it has a metal frame with rounded corners, but its back panel can be customized with leather, Soft Grip or ballistic nylon in different colors on the Moto Maker website. The color of the front can also be chosen along with frames and metal accents. However, like its competitor, there is no fingerprint scanner on the device. 

Display

When it comes to display size, the DROID Turbo 2 is slightly bigger with a 5.4-inch AMOLED screen and a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 540 pixels per inch. As for the DROID Turbo, it has a Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 565 pixels per inch. 

Specs

Comparing hardware, the DROID Turbo 2 is ahead with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset that is coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the DROID Turbo, it has an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, coupled with a quad-core CPU and an Adreno 420 GPU. 

Memory

With no memory slot onboard the DROID Turbo, it lags in this segment while the DROID Turbo 2 has a version that supports up to 2 TB of external storage. As for RAM, each of these devices has 3 GB on board. 

Camera

Camera quality on the DROID Turbo 2 is better and its 21-megapixel version is ranked higher on DxOMark than the similar version on the DROID Turbo.

Price

Each of these devices can be obtained by paying a flat amount per month for a period of two years. However, when it comes to buying it unlocked, the DROID Turbo 2 is priced at $634 and the DROID Turbo is priced at $480.
