Indie horror game "Five Nights at Freddy's" is on the verge of transitioning from cult favorite to a full-fledged phenomenon. The three games released so far in the series have thrilled gaming fans with its captivating atmosphere and engaging gameplay. Now, a fourth installment is currently in the works.

As reported in this article at Polygon, "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" is officially a go and is slated to release around Halloween later this year. A short one minute teaser was posted on developer Scott Cawthon's official website, but as with the previous games in the series, the video does not give out much concrete information about the project. Still, the upcoming game looks to retain the feel of the previous installments in the series which will no doubt be welcome news for longtime fans of the franchise.

While the fourth installment is under development, news of another "Five Nights" related project has also become a hot topic. It was reported a few weeks ago that the rights to a "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie was picked up by Warner Bros. Studios. At this point of time, no significant casting decisions have been made, though Seth Grahame-Smith has been tapped as the project's producer.

The "Five Nights" franchise appears exceptionally well suited for a movie adaptation and Grahame-Smith has already indicated that his team will be looking to capture the game's unique flavor of horror. While Grahame-Smith is known as more of a writer rather than a movie producer, he does have experience with a variety of projects, with the most notable one being "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". While that project did not fare particularly well, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" film should fare much better.
