Galaxy Note 5 release date, specs, rumors: new phablet will have auto-eject S-Pen stylus

There have been reports of Samsung planning to launch Galaxy Note 5 (internally codenamed Project Noble), along with the second-generation Galaxy Note 5 Edge (internally codenamed Project Zero 2). Fresh reports now claim that the Galaxy Note 5 will sport the S-Pen stylus along with an auto-eject function. Interestingly, the S-Pen stylus was featured in the Galaxy Note Edge released last year and should have been incorporated in the Galaxy Note 5 Edge to be launched this year, though Samsung seems to have gone for a change in design this time.

Earlier reports had claimed that the Galaxy Note 5 Edge was unlikely to feature an S-Pen, which is one of the most distinguishing and defining features of Samsung's Note series. The reports had further claimed that since Samsung had dropped the special stylus for the Galaxy Note 5 Edge, its internal codename had also been changed from the earlier Project Zen to Project Zero 2.

Now according to the latest reports, Samsung has patented a mechanism for the S-Pen to be automatically ejected from its chassis using reverse polarization. Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 5 will feature an S-Pen stylus along with the auto-eject function, which will automatically eject the stylus instead of the user pulling it out manually.

A magnet inside the S-Pen as well as its housing in the Galaxy Note 5 will attract each other when the stylus is placed inside the phablet to hold it firmly in position. Users will be able to eject the S Pen out of its housing automatically by using a hand gesture, voice command or a button function, which will reverse the polarization of the two magnets and make them repel each other.

"Since it is possible to automatically eject the touch pen only with a simple manipulation and/or command, it is easy to manipulate the electronic device with one hand, and since a separate locking device for confining the touch pen isn't needed, it is possible to enhance the usage convenience of the electronic device," revealed Samsung in the patent.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 at the IFA 2015 in Berlin in September this year, as its predecessor, the successful Galaxy Note 4 released in 2014, will have completed a circle of one year in the market by then.
