The Episcopal Diocese of Georgia ordained it's 10th bishop over the weekend, with the Rev. Scott Benhase succeeding Bishop Henry I. Louttit for the position.

Benhase, 52, was previously the rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. when he was elected last September out of a group of six nominees.

Before moving to D.C., the Virginia Theological Seminary graduate served in the priesthood for 26 years in congregations in Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

Benhase told the Savannah Morning News prior to his election in Georgia that being a clergyman had taught him patience.

"When we're in dilemmas, the worst thing we can do is try to force a resolution before one appears," he said. "I think God's m.o. (modus operandi) and the Holy Spirit's m.o. throughout this for the church is that if we remain faithful and stay together and bear one another's burdens long enough, the Holy Spirit almost always has a tendency to provide a way forward."

Benhase's consecration comes as the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky announced nominees for its position of bishop.

The nominees, which hailed from Texas, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Missouri, were all "highly qualified," according to the Kentucky diocese's search committee.

The election is scheduled for June 5 in Louisville.
