Google Nexus 2016 release date: specs for Marlin and Sailfish include Snapdragon 820 and Android N

(Google)Upcoming Nexus 2016 smartphones will be different from the Nexus 6P (pictured).

The upcoming Google Nexus 2016 smartphones have been surrounded by rumors as of late. Dubbed the Marlin and Sailfish, it is believed that Google has partnered with Taiwanese company HTC to develop the next iterations in the lineup. But what exactly are the specifications of each device?

There have been no confirmed reports, nor has anyone from Google gone on record to affirm these rumors. However, it is widely believed that the Sailfish will be the smaller of the two devices. According to GSMArena, the smartphone will boast a measurement of 5 inches. Its resolution will reportedly be 1920 x 1080. Apart from that, the Sailfish is expected to come with a quad core CPU clocked at 2.1 GHz. As for its processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is believed to be on board.

As for the Marlin, it will be larger than the Sailfish in terms of display measurement, but certainly not far off at 5.5 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Like its smaller sibling, the Marlin is rumored to have a quad core CPU and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

It was previously reported that a USB-C port, a RAM of 4 GB, and a powerful 3,450 mAh battery are also expected to land with the Marlin. For security features, a fingerprint sensor is also rumored to be located at the back of the device.

Both iterations will apparently have two cameras, much like majority of smartphones these days. A 12-megapixel camera will be found at the rear and an 8-megapixel selfie camera at the front. Both versions are also said to have AMOLED displays.

As for the operating systems, the newly unveiled Android Nougat is reportedly poised to run the two devices. Even though the Nougat has not officially launched yet, it is believed that the operating system will arrive in time for the Marlin and Sailfish.

These are just rumors, though, so it would be best to take this news with a grain of salt until further notice.
