People have been waiting for the GoPro Hero 5 for a while now, and the extended wait is expected to finally come to an end this year.

During a conference call back in February, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman confirmed that the new camera would indeed make its debut this year, but he did not provide a specific release date.

A firm release date for the camera remains unconfirmed, but most rumors currently suggest that it will finally be available this October.

It's unclear just how reliable those rumors actually are, but with GoPro yet to provide more specific details, that release window will remain on people's minds until something new comes out to contradict it.

While an exact release date is still nearly impossible to pin down at this point, it's not quite as difficult to imagine the GoPro Hero 5 sporting more than a few improvements upon being officially launched.

For instance, one improvement currently rumored for the upcoming camera is an added ability to be able to record 8K videos. Such an improvement would be quite significant, since, as Value Walk pointed out, that would double the capability of the Hero 4 Black that currently manages to record 4K videos.

The upcoming camera might also feature a new processor upon making its debut.

While GoPro cameras have typically made use of Ambarella products to power their devices in the past, the Hero 5 might be an exception.

According to CNet, Qualcomm's line of Snapdragon processors might make more sense for the upcoming cameras that GoPro is looking to produce.

Unfortunately, if there is indeed a shift in the works, consumers might not find out about it for a while as GoPro is not saying much of anything related to the new camera's features.

The waiting game will have to continue for now, but more news about the GoPro Hero 5 should be made available in the future.
