GoPro Hero 5 release date, specs rumors: 4K at 60fps shooting capability; to release as a bundle with Karma drone

(Facebook/GoPro)GoPro is rumored to release its Hero 5 and Karma as a bundle later this year.

Fans may see a new action camera from GoPro soon if rumors about its launch late this year are true. So far, GoPro has not officially announced a release date for the Hero 5 but it is expected that the device should be available in time for the holidays.

Initially, it was thought that the GoPro Hero 5 would be released after its newest product, the Karma drone, becomes available in the market. The drone was supposed to be out now as it had a pegged release period being the first half of 2016. However, it was confirmed by GoPro CEO Nick Woodman that Karma won't make it to its planned release date. "While we had to make the difficult decision to delay our drone, Karma, the upside is that Karma's launch should now benefit from the holidays," Woodman said in a statement.

Given Woodman's statement, it is now speculated that the GoPro Hero 5 will be released together with the Karma drone as a bundled product. Woodman also made it clear in a report from The Verge that the company will release three devices this year, two of which will be the Karma drone and Hero 5.

As fans wait for an official announcement, rumors about the action camera's specs and features have been popping up online. It is assumed that the GoPro Hero 5 will be a significant upgrade of its predecessor, the Hero 4.

The Hero 4 can shoot 4K video with a frame rate of 30fps. The successor is said to have more improved shooting capabilities, allowing users to record 4K video at 60fps, ValueWalk reported. Further, it is speculated that the next action camera will carry dual-lens making it possible to record 3D videos. The screen resolution is rumored to be 8K Full Ultra HD. There are talks that the device will also come with waterproof features that allow users to take it 60 meters under water. Given this particular feature, it is said that the GoPro Hero 5 will cater to divers or underwater photography enthusiasts.

As for now, the GoPro Hero 5's specs and features have not been confirmed. The company only described the camera to be their "most connected and convenient" device.
