Gran Turismo 7 is unlikely to get a PS4 release date this year, but will be keeping the cars that have been with the franchise since the PlayStation 2 era.

Polyphony Digital confirmed that it will develop the next installment of the Gran Turismo series that will launch exclusively on PlayStation 4, to hopefully make a comeback as Sony's top racing game.

In a Eurogamer article, Polyphony Digital CEO Kanuzori Yamauchi confirmed that they are already working around GT 7's development, but puts off the expected 2014 release.

"We are working on the title," said Yamauchi. "I don't think it'll make this year!"

GT fans have expressed disappointment over a previous optimistic statement of Yamauchi when asked last November (2013) as to when the Gran Turismo 7 release date would be.

"We don't want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7," Yamauchi told Top Gear. "Best-case scenario? Next year."

He also abandoned the idea that the complete overhaul of GT 7 would mean that fans will no longer see or drive the models that existed since 2004.

"I doubt that we'll be throwing away the standard cars," said Yamauchi. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focused on increasing the number of premium cars."

While they are keeping the good old cars, Polyphony is concentrating on the evolution of the racetrack selections, both copycats of real-world and original tracks.

A photographer himself, Yamauchi stressed that he is not happy with the current "photo mode" rendition in GT 6.

He is pushing the boundaries and expects that the successor will highlight next generation graphics and user experience.

Moreover, the company is going straight to full game development and will not have a Gran Turismo 7 prologue.

The gameplay promises stunning and realistic visuals that could very well position Gran Turismo 7 as top pick for 2015.
