The year 2016 is already here and that could only mean one thing for "Grand Theft Auto" fans--only two more years left before the speculated launch of the highly rumored sixth installment, "Grand Theft Auto 6." However, recent reports have emerged claiming that game developer, Rockstar Games, has a different focus for this year, and that is the downloadable contents for the online version of "GTA V."

Master Herald reports that if this rumor turns out to be legit, then the initial development for "GTA 6" will most probably start during the second half of 2016, which could take a couple of years and might even make it to the speculated 2018 release date—if the developer doesn't encounter any type of delay, that is.

While die-hard fans of "GTA" think that the 2018 is very likely to happen, experts, on the other hand, are skeptic about the prediction.

According to reports, some experts believe that the mentioned launch year is just a rough estimate that was based on Rockstar Games' release date habit of five years--give or take--before the next IP follow up, which is also the case for the fifth game installment.

The basis for the launch can be quite compelling, however, one should also take into consideration that the company had occasionally delayed some of their updates for their games or even future titles.

A perfect example for this is the delayed update of "GTA Online" Heist where the company had promised fans that the new content will come in Spring of 2014 but was released at a much later date, said Gamerant on their report two years ago.

With all that said, it is highly advisable for fans to take the current circulating rumors with a reasonable pinch of salt for now until the game developer officially confirms the existence of "GTA 6."
