"Grand Theft Auto V" is one of the most critically acclaimed and most popular games in the action-adventure genre. And developer Rockstar plans to keep it there by regularly releasing updates for the game. Its success has made gamers chomping at the bit as they wait for news about "GTA 6."

Unfortunately, it appears that a new "GTA" game is not on Rockstar's horizon yet. According to reports, the earliest that "GTA 6" might be released is 2018. But in a move that was probably made to alleviate the long wait, Rockstar will reportedly release some mini-series to complement the existing game.

One reason why fans are excited to see the newest installation in the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise is the rumor that a female lead character will be introduced. Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, added credence to the rumor when he admitted that they will do a game with a female character for the lead.

"We just haven't found the right game for it, but it's one of the things we always think about," he added.

While that would be a first, it is not really farfetched. Rockstar is known for pushing the envelope when it comes to their games. It pushed the envelope quite far when it designed "GTA 5" to have three distinct protagonists. It was a change that fans loved as it made the game feel fresh and spiced up the gameplay.

There have also been rumors that Ryan Gosling, or his voice at least, will be in "Grand Theft Auto 6." It has also been said that the new game will have a vibe similar to "GTA: Vice City."

Rockstar has not confirmed or denied any of those rumors. But the company's president, Leslie Benzies, did share that they have "about 45 years worth of ideas" that they want to do. Unfortunately, the company's focus is on "GTA Online." Add to that the DLCs and other features that the developer is working on and it becomes understandable why "GTA 6" might take some time.
