'Half-Life 3' release date news: expectations around new Source 2 engine fueled by game logo sighting

Last month, there were several reports about how Valve co-founder Gabe Newell finally debunked rumors of "Half-Life 3" being in the works. Just when it seemed that all the excitement and anticipation surrounding the game had faded away, another sighting of the infamous game logo has reignited speculations about "Half-Life 3".

"Half-Life", which was first introduced almost twenty years ago, is a widely successful first shooter game developed and published by Valve, which was a fledgling game production company back then. The game's success is mostly because the production company achieved legitimacy - in turn spawning two more full length "Half Life" games and two episodic titles.

The last installment of the series was released in 2007 and just like the previous versions, "Half-Life 2" was received positively by players and critics alike. Interestingly, since the last game was made available eight years ago, fans of the franchise have been only anticipating and speculating about the release of the third sequel.

A recent article by Christian Today has reported that the "Half-Life 3" logo was seen on the Valve-owned Steam website. While this could be just a glitch in the system, fans have taken the sighting as evidence of the game being possibly announced at the upcoming E3.

Reports of another interesting "Half-Life" development have been doing the rounds, claiming that the release of "Source 2" in March could be the last key to the production of "Half-Life 3". It may be recalled that the first Source engine was developed alongside "Half-life 2." With the second version of the game engine available, rumors of a third installment are now beginning to build up.

Players will have to wait a little longer for a confirmation about the release and development of "Half-Life 3". In subreddit, a fan with the screenname, Wuki, probably summed it up best, saying:

"It's not officially cancelled, it's not officially announced. I believe it will arrive some day. But it's mostly speculation."
