'Half-Life 3' release date in 2018 with VR compatibility? E3 2016 announcement likely?

(Valve)

"Half-Life 3" continues to be a subject of various speculations from the gaming community. Game developer Valve has not issued an announcement regarding the existence of a third installment to the game franchise. However, many "Half-Life" fans are hoping that the game company will make an announcement at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

E3 is less than a month away and fans are holding on to hope that Valve will announce "Half-Life 3." If no announcement will happen this year, then E3 2017 is also a rumored venue.

Whichever the case, the rumors suggest that Valve will make the game available to the market sometime in 2018. Of course, all these release date rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt considering Valve has kept its silence regarding this issue.

"Half-Life 3" is also said to be ready for Virtual Reality (VR). According to some gaming analysts, the game developer already has access to the technology considering it has worked with HTC to develop the HTC Vive headset. This paved the way to speculations that the game's sequel will also be VR-compatible, which is not all that impossible considering that the technology is now available.

By 2018, this technology should already be widely accepted in the gaming community. Valve may not have developed a VR-compatible game yet, but if the rumors prove to be true, "Half-Life" could be its first.

If indeed Valve plans to make "Half-Life 3" available by 2018, it is expected to be a big release since millions of fans have been waiting for it. Fans should also take into consideration that all these are rumors and Valve has yet to make it official. With that said, there's always the possibility that "Half-Life 2" could also be the last of the game.

There's no way of knowing what Valve plans for the franchise. It's been more than a decade since "Half-Life 2" was released.
