'Half-Life 3' release date: Valve planning for a VR game for 2018?

"Half-Life 3" just can't seem to catch a break as the first-person shooter game continues to be the subject of rumors. According to these rumors, "Half-Life 3" will be released in the near future, although there is no official announcement from developer Valve.
Valve has continued to keep quiet about any updates on one of the most anticipated game sequels. Despite that, people still hold on to the fact that the game will be developed soon. With bigger consoles gaining popularity in the gaming community, there are reports that Valve is preparing "Half-Life 3" to be one of the big titles for the new gaming consoles, which also readily supports Virtual Reality (VR). In other words, "Half-Life" is rumored to make a grand entrance as a VR-compatible title in 2018.
The rumor comes from the fact that Valve was in collaboration with HTC in developing HTC VIVE, a virtual reality headset. According to Christian Today, the "Half-Life" game series is also an ideal game genre to become a VR title. Since VR gaming has not become the mainstream gaming mode yet, it is possible that "Half-Life 3" will only become a full VR-compatible title by 2018 at the earliest.
Part of the reason why rumors about a possible "Half-Life 3" release exist is because Valve did not explicitly confirm that it is not developing another installment. But if the developer really pushes through with the release and targets 2018, that would be exciting news for fans who have been waiting long enough for the third installment. It is also possible that the game will be a hit on gaming consoles considered to be popular by that time, the Xbox Scorpio and PlayStation Neo.
However, nothing has been set on stone yet and fans can just continue hoping that somewhere down the line, "Half-Life 3" will make it to the shelves. If the game gets out, it will certainly be a good one.
