'Half Life 3' release date: Will the game ever come into fruition?

What is the future of Half Life 3?

The popular first-person shooter game from Valve is one of the highly anticipated games today and fans are clamouring for a sequel to Half Life 2. It's been quite a while and the rumor mill has been busy with speculations about the release date of the newest Half Life game.

Fans could feel a little bit of disappointment if they're going to base the future of the game on Valve's co-founder and Half Life creator Gabe Newell's statements in an interview with Motoring Crunch in December last year.

He said that Half Life 3 is not currently in production, so there's no way it's going to be released soon. But the takeaway from this is the fact that Newell did not deny the possibility of production. He simply meant it's not "currently in production."

He also admitted that they can consider creating the game due to the very strong interest shown by fans. So, if fans are going to keep up the clamor for a sequel, the big bosses at Valve may just listen and give in.

Still, some fans are not totally bought especially with rumors that the game is actually being developed. In an interview, Minhe Le, former Valve employee and director of Counter Strike, sort of confirmed that Half Life 3 is about to find its way in stores.

He said that it's common knowledge that the game is being developed and that he has already seen some images and concept art for Half Life 3.

Another reason why rumors about the game's impending release date is the retail listing of Half Life 3 in a Swedish videogame store, Webhallen. Last year, it listed a product page that seems to hint on a 2015 release of Half Life for PCs.

Webhallen is one of the trusted videogame stores in Sweden. It used to be owned by Amazon and currently has nine different stores as well as a well-referenced online marketplace.
