The next installment of the "Halo" franchise, "Halo 6," may soon be made available not just for the Xbox One, but also for the PC.

Recently, in a Kotaku report hinting at Microsoft's potential plans for their Xbox platform, the sources spoken to by the web site also revealed what the company may have in mind for future games.

Specifically, the web site's sources revealed that a new mandate has been set for future games, calling on developers to release their titles not just for the Xbox One but also for the PC.

Supposedly part of this rumored plan is the "Halo" franchise, meaning future installments of the futuristic first-person shooter series could soon be playable on both the Xbox One and the PC.

Whether or not dual-platform accessibility can be implemented soon enough to affect such titles as "Halo 6" remains to be seen.

Microsoft has not commented on these rumors, and with "Halo 6" not even official just yet, it's still tough to tell if the dual-platform feature will indeed become a reality.

Still, it would seemingly benefit Microsoft to aim for such a feature with their upcoming games, as it could even open their titles up to a larger gaming audience.

For instance, PC gamers who may have previously steered clear of the "Halo" franchise may be lured in, should it be made available on a platform they know better.

On top of that, releasing a "Halo" game for both the Xbox One and the PC could also open the door for the widespread implementations of other features such as cross-platform play, a feature that is already available for the racing/sports title "Rocket League."

Time will tell if "Halo 6" and other Xbox games will follow suit when it comes to Xbox One-PC cross-platform play, though with E3 looming, perhaps that announcement will be made sooner rather than later.
