Actor Harrison Ford continues to recuperate at a Los Angeles hospital following a near disastrous aviation incident at the Santa Monica Airport earlier this month. Ford was piloting a vintage plane when he was forced to land the vehicle immediately following its takeoff due to engine problems. He was able to safely land the plane on a golf course just parallel to the runway but suffered a bad laceration to the scalp in the process.

Christian Fry, Vice President at the Santa Monica Airport Assocation, credited Ford's extensive flying experience and deft handling of the situation. "He appeared to have made a turn back towards the airport and didn't have enough speed to make it to the runway, so he made a beautifully executed forced landing here at the golf course, so really just a great job by a very well-trained pilot," he explained, as reported in an article at People.

Ford is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery without any lasting physical damage. His wife, actress Calista Flockhart, visits him on a daily basis at the hospital after dropping off their son Liam at school.

Flockhart has long supported her husband's aerial pursuits and is quite fond of flying herself. As reported in this article at People, Flockhart understands how much flying means to her husband and supports him fully.

"Calista loves to fly, and I'm thrilled because it's so important to me and it's the kind of thing that's so much more fun with somebody who really enjoys it. [She] likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love," Ford said.
