HP Elite x3 vs iPhone 6s Plus specs comparison: Apple metal clad device has design advantage

One of the most interesting phablets that arrived during MWC 2016 was the HP Elite x3 and it was evident that it was being targeted at those who wanted a good device for business use. Even as it was arriving in the market, it was clear that it will have to take on and beat the iPhone 6s Plus from Apple and this is how these devices compare.

Design

The edges of the Elite x3 are made from metal and the same material is present at the front base where the speaker is housed. However, the back panel is made from polycarbonate and there is no fingerprint sensor on the device which comes in one color, black. As for the iPhone 6s Plus, it has the look and feel of a premium phablet as it has a metal body with rounded corners. It has a fingerprint sensor incorporated into its home button and its display has 3D Touch technology which can sense the amount of pressure being applied by the user's fingertips. As for colors, the iPhone 6s Plus comes in gray, silver, rose gold and gold.

However, where the Elite x3 has a big advantage is that it is waterproof and has an IP67 rating along with a MIL-STD 810G certification, which means it can withstand vibration and thermal shock. Since the Elite x3 runs on Windows 10 mobile, it comes with the Continuum feature so it can be used with a bigger display, keyboard and mouse and effectively become a tablet when required.

Display

Coming to display size, the Elite x3 is the bigger device and comes with a 5.96-inch version with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 493 pixels per inch. As for the 6s Plus, its IPS LCD display measures 5.5 inches and it has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch

Hardware

Onboard the iPhone 6s Plus is an Apple A9 chipset, coupled with a dual-core CPU and a PowerVR GT7600 GPU. As for its competitor, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, coupled with a quad-core CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU.

Memory

There is 4 GB RAM on the Elite x3 while the iPhone 6s Plus has 2 GB. As for memory slots, the version on the Elite x3 supports up to 200 GB while there is no slot on the iPhone 6s Plus.

Cameras

In terms of camera, there is a 16-megapixel version on the Elite x3 and a 12-megapixel version on the iPhone 6s Plus, which has been rated well by DxOMark.

Price

No pricing has been released for the HP Elite x3 so far, but the iPhone 6s Plus costs $299 with a two-year contract.
