iMac 2016 release date, specs: Rumors point to October arrival

(Apple)The upcoming 2016 iMac is said to support virtual and augmented reality.

Many Apple fans are looking forward to the release of the iMac 2016. And according to reports, the scheduled arrival of the upcoming device is said to be October.

The 2016 iMac has been plagued with rumors when it comes to its features and specifications. According to reports, the new iMac will have virtual reality (VR) support. Since VR is rapidly becoming a staple in the gaming industry — with big names releasing VR consoles left and right — it comes as no surprise that Apple would also jump on the bandwagon. Apart from VR, though, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also said to be incorporating augmented reality (AR) into the new iMac.

Augmented reality is different from virtual reality in that the former is less immersive than the latter. However, the rumors about VR and AR support mostly stemmed from the news that Apple will be utilizing AMD graphics cards for its 2016 iMac. AMD has Polaris graphics cards that are capable of VR technology. However, Apple has never confirmed that these two features will be on board their upcoming device.

Another specification that is said to come with the upcoming iMac is 5K display. This is certainly a huge step forward for the company and the world of technology in general. Most companies only have up to 4K display for their offerings, so a 5K display is something entirely new and innovative. It is believed that Apple is working with a fellow tech giant, LG Electronics, in the hopes of developing the technology.

The upcoming iMac is also expected to run on the new operating system from Apple, the macOS Sierra. As for its release date, it is widely believed that the 2016 iMac will be hitting shelves sometime in October. However, since Apple has yet to officially announce a date or confirm these rumors, readers should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
