iMac 2016 release date, specs: 5K display, VR/AR support, macOS Sierra among rumors
The upcoming iMac 2016 has been the subject of many rumors and speculations as of late. It has been said that Apple's latest PC offering will not sport major changes compared to the previous iteration and will probably arrive sometime next month.
According to reports, it seems unlikely that the Cupertino-based tech company will be performing a huge makeover on the iMac 2016, even though it has been a year since the previous model got any updates.
The release date of the new iMac is also up for debate, but reports seem to agree that October will be the month of choice. Many fans expected Apple to release details on the upcoming iMac during the iPhone 7 event, but they were left disappointed when the tech giant failed to unveil anything related to the computer.
As for what the iMac 2016 will be sporting when it arrives, rumor has it that Intel's latest processor, Kaby Lake, will not make it under the hood. However, a different Intel processor may still be on board. It is also believed that the new iMac will be running on macOS Sierra, Apple's new operating system, out of the box.
But perhaps an even more exciting feature that is said to be coming to the new iMac is virtual reality and augmented reality support. Both formats have already been making waves in the gaming industry, so it would make sense for the company to integrate them into the iMac 2016.
The upcoming iMac may be able to hold its own in the gaming computer market, especially when it is armed with Polaris graphics cards from AMD. Apple has apparently already struck a deal with AMD and it can be expected that their chipsets will be found in the iMac 2016. Additionally, 5K display is also a highly speculated feature that is believed to be making it to the new computers. And LG Electronics is said to be working with Apple to produce the technology.
