Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is happening this week and fans are still waiting for an announcement regarding the existence of a new iPad Air model.

So far, Apple has not mentioned  anything about a new lineup to the series. The last time fans were introduced to a new iPad was in March, but it wasn't part of the iPad Air series. Instead, the Cupertino-based company launched a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Even with the lack of confirmation from Apple, rumors continue to swirl that iPad Air 3 will be released at some point. There are reports suggesting that Apple will use this year's September event as the launch venue. On the other hand, MacWorld speculates that an October 2016 release is likely since previous iPad Air models were released in the same month.

Fans are starting to lose hope that an announcement will be dropped this week since the ongoing WWDC is said to focus only on the software side instead of introducing new gadgets.

There are also those who believe that Apple may have killed the lineup once and for all and the iPad Air 2 was the last of them. According to speculations, Apple might just focus entirely on the Pro and Mini lineup. Whether or not Apple plans to release another Air series remains to be seen.

As for the specs, the iPad Air 3 is believed to sport some of the features found in the iPad Pro, such as the Smart Connector and Smart Keyboard. The device is also expected to have a much thinner design compared to the models that came before it. The latest iPad Pro featured the Apple Pencil and it worked perfectly on the device. It is also speculated that the iPad Air 3 will have the same stylus feature.

There are only about two days left before the WWDC concludes. Fans are hoping that somehow Apple will still give a surprise announcement concerning the anticipated tablet. Otherwise, it will be another three or four months of waiting for a possible iPad Air 3 launch.
