When it comes to the current mobile realm, Apple and Samsung are the undisputed lords engaged in a never-ending combat to nab the "number one" spot.

Apple's iPhone has been pretty dominant, while Samsung has turned into the world's largest smartphone maker.

When it comes to tablets, an iPad Mini 2 vs Galaxy Tab 3 comparison is a given.

The Apple iPad Mini 2, or iPad Mini with Retina Display, has a 7.9-inch LED backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology and 2048 x 1536 resolution.

It is powered by A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and M7 motion coprocessor, and has a 5MP rear-facing camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera.

It runs on iOS 7 and will soon be updated to iOS 8 when it arrives this coming fall.

Galaxy Tab 2's successor, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, was released to the market in 2013.

Galaxy Tab 3 sports an 8-inch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution, which is marginally bigger than Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX and Google's Nexus 7.

Samsung's tablet has a 5MP rear-facing camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, and runs Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is priced at $169.99, while the cheapest iPad Mini 2 sells for $399.

A practical "selfie"-lover should go with Galaxy Tab 3 as it sports the same imaging qualities as iPad Mini 2.

However, those who are looking for speed and sophistication should opt for an iPad Mini 2, but need to be willing to cash out more.

Apple sticks with a particular branding strategy of uniqueness and luxury that has formed a cult-like following, while Samsung on the other hand, integrates a "mass appeal" in their devices.

Apple iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display was launched October of 2013, almost three months after Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 was made available to the market.
