iPad Pro 2 update: Apple to release three iPad Pro 2 models, iPad Pencil 2 in March

(Reuters/Beck Diefenbach)The iPad Pro 2 is expected to be much faster than the iPad Pro, and could possibly compete with laptops and PCs.

Technology firm Apple is expected to release three new iPad Pro 2 tablet computer models, along with a next generation iPad Pencil 2, in March. The new iOS version 10.3 could also be launched with the new products.

According to PCAdvisor, reputable industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the new iPad Pro 2 models are a 12.9-inch model with new A10X processor and other upgrades, a 10.1-10-5-inch variant with the A10X processor and ultrathin bezels and probably no physical home button, and an affordable 9.7-inch phone with A9 or A9X processor. The analyst also reported that revolutionary changes like a flexible AMOLED display will be introduced to the iPad line in 2018. The new models are also expected to use higher-speed display technology to achieve smoother zooming, panning and scrolling operations.

Based on Apple's patent filings, the new iPad Pencil model could feature an iPhone support, as well as Smart Cover and MacBook trackpad integration. The new pencil is also expected to have the capability to annotate in apps such as Safari, Messages and Mail.

The next-generation iPad models are expected to have the same 256 GB storage capacity like the original model and to come in Rose Gold color. The other expected specifications of the new models include a 12-megapixel iSight camera with Live Photos and 4k video recording capability and a 5-megapixel front FaceTime HD camera with Retina Flash.

A leaked photo in mid-2016 showed that Apple is indeed developing a successor model of the iPad Pro as the revealed model number of the device, "MH1C2CD/F," did not match any existing iPad models. However, the photo is not confirmed as a prototype of the second-generation iPad Pro model. More photo leaks are expected as the anticipated launching date comes near.

As for their prices, the iPad Pro 2 base models are expected to have the same pricing like the iPad Pro 12.9 model, namely $799 for 32 GB, $949 for 128 GB and $1,099 for 256 GB.
