Jeremy Lin news: Backup role will not stop him from slashing

Jeremy Lin may just be coming off the bench but from a standpoint, that could be good. It lessens the pressure on his shoulders and gives opposing coaches less things to worry about.

That is until he is called upon by head coach Steve Clifford to get going, the time when he starts giving headaches. For now, that is Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra's problem, following the back-to-back wins by the Hornets over his team to knot the series at 2-2.

One could debate that the reason behind Lin and the Hornets being able to tie it up is because they had the home court advantage. That may be so, though that shouldn't take anything away from Lin and the Hornets' resident stars such as Kemba Walker.

The strange thing about it is that Lin is running circles around the Heat's defense and doing his damage on the inside. Hassan Whiteside, the Heat's shot-blocking demon, doesn't seem to intimidate the Asian-American. And if Whiteside concentrates on Lin, it frees up the Hornets big men like Al Jefferson or Frank Kaminsky.

Summing it all up, it looks like Whiteside's teammates will have to improve on their defense to help out. That includes Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic, two players likely tasked to match up with Linsanity when they take the floor.

While it may be too early to rejoice for the Hornets, they need to steal one win in Miami. Based on the first two games in South Beach, the Hornets haven't exactly shown that they can match up well. They lost on both occasions via double-digits though they get to try again later when they face off for game 5.

The Heat are still the favourites over the Hornets but the thing here is that Spoelstra and his boys cannot afford to take "Buzz City" for granted. As far as Lin is concerned, he will continue to do his work once he takes the floor.
