Kansas City Chiefs free agency, trade rumors 2016: Nick Foles to have new start

It did not take long for quarterback Nick Foles to find a new team following a buyout of his contract with the Los Angeles Rams as he reportedly agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to a report by ESPN, Foles said yes to a deal which will earn him $1.75 million plus incentives in the 2016 season. The second year is a team option that ranges from $6.75 million to $16 million (performance-wise) and also has incentives.

When the deal becomes official, Foles will join Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray as the backups of Chiefs starter Alex Smith.

Along with a new start, Foles will again be with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. The two have worked together during their days with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last season, Foles saw action and started in 11 games for the Rams, completing 190 passes for 2,052 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old athlete tied a career-worst when he threw 10 interceptions.

Before Foles' stint with the Rams, he spent three seasons with the Eagles and had the starting job in majority of the games he played for his former team.

What the Chiefs are getting in Foles is an experienced passer who can take on the backup duties, and the starting role when needed.

When Foles became a free agent, there were other teams aside from Kansas City that showed interest in him. One of these were the Dallas Cowboys who lost a backup passer when Kellen Moore went down with an injury earlier this week.

Beside the Chiefs and Cowboys, the Minnesota Vikings were also believed to have eyed Foles when he became available on the market.

Despite a new deal, it remains uncertain if Foles will be part of the Chiefs' final 53-man roster for the 2016 season. He likely needs to still compete with other guys to secure a spot.
