"Longmire" season 5 is set to premiere in September yet no official release has been made regarding the plot. However, fans continue to hope and speculate that the season will feature the start of a romantic relationship between Walt and Vic, whose characters in the novel ended up together.

Speculations were strengthened by a Facebook post on the show's official page, where a picture of the two is captioned, "What does the future hold for Walt and Vic?"

Before "Longmire" was signed under Netflix, the series' first three seasons were shown on A&E. After three successful seasons, A&E reportedly did not renew the series because its demographics did not fit in well with the network's target audience. The show's loyal followers rallied for the show through petitions and campaigns which led Netflix to take the show in for its fourth season.

Towards the end of season 3, a brewing romance between Walt and Vic was evident. But this did not continue on in season 4, where Vic was shown working on her marriage while Walt showed interest in another character, Donna Monaghan. The last scene in season 4 even showed a private moment between Donna and Walter. Just when the two were getting closer, an intruder entered and that became the season's cliffhanger.

Rumors have it that the romance might not progress because Donna could be working with Walker. Walker is also suspected by some to be the perpetrator in season 4's last scene.

While a Walt-Vic love story is reportedly most anticipated, other viewers feel that the age difference between them is not suited for a romantic relationship. Details about the upcoming season are expected to be announced during this year's "Longmire Days Convention," which takes place in July.
