Los Angeles Lakers roster rumors 2016: Thomas Robinson securing last spot?

Former Kansas Jayhawks standout Thomas Robinson may have found a new home in the National Basketball Association (NBA), with him viewed as the favorite to bag the last spot in the Los Angeles Lakers' final lineup for the 2016-17 season.

Robinson was selected by the Sacramento Kings fifth overall in the 2012 NBA draft. Since then, he has played for them, the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Brooklyn Nets.

In all of Robinson's seasons in the league, he failed to have an impact. But the Lakers gave him a chance in this year's off-season and so far, he is impressive.

"I think he's been phenomenal," Lakers head coach Luke Walton said earlier this week during their practice.

Walton continued, "I know other teams haven't gotten to see him like we have, but the way he's played, if he didn't make our roster I wouldn't be surprised if another team jumped on him pretty quick."

As of the moment, the competition for the last slot in the team might still be ongoing.

If Robinson makes it, he will add size to the front line and might be a spark off the bench. When the 25-year-old was in college, he was an energy guy for the Jayhawks. If he could bring that to the purple and gold, he may be an important piece in the upcoming campaign.

The main players at power forward for Los Angeles are Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. When Robinson succeeds, he is expected to be third on the depth chart behind these guys.

For now, that is not the concern of Robinson who is waiting for the decision if he stays with the Lakers or be back on the market.

"It's out of my hands now," Robinson told Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times.

"I feel like I've done everything I can to this point to give myself the best shot that I can to make this team. It's up to the front office now," Robinson added.
